HELP US REDUCE RECIDIVISM

RECIDIVISM FACTS

  • Recidivism is defined as any form of contact with the criminal justice system after previous contact, regardless of the degree of the offense.

  • According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, 83.4% of ex-felons return to prison within 1 to 9 years of their release.

  • Young people between the ages of 18-24 are the most likely to be rearrested within a year of being released from prison.

PROJECT REDEMPTION

  • Project Redemption is a series of inspiring stories told by formally incarcerated citizens, whom have fully reintegrated into society.

  • We believe these stories will empower those returning home from prison, as well as assist with removing the stigma associated with incarceration.

Help us rebuild lives and communities by donating to support reentry efforts or volunteering.

To reduce recidivism and increase public safety by providing returning citizens with the tools necessary to lead fruitful lives.

To fully prepare the formally incarcerated to contribute to their communities and have a positive lasting impact on future generations.

WHY REENTRY?

  • Over 75% of released inmates are re-incarcerated within five years of discharge from prison; this high re-offending rate is due to many U.S. prisons focusing on punishment, rather than rehabilitation.

  • 80% of women in prison are mothers, approximately 5 million children have a parent in prison over their lifetime.

  • High rates of recidivism mean more crime, more victims, and more pressure on an already overburdened criminal justice system.
